Lamey was also "Voice of the Colts" from 1984 (upon their arrival in Indianapolis from Baltimore) until 1991. Lamey has previously served as radio voice of the NBA's Indiana Pacers (1977-84) and two defunct hockey teams, the Indianapolis Racers of the WHA and the Indianapolis Checkers of the IHL. He is also a previous Sports Director of Indy radio station WIBC. Prior to coming to Indianapolis, Lamey served for five years as the voice of the ABA's Carolina Cougars.
Lamey graduated from Texas Christian University and later earned a Masters Degree from Ohio University. He grew up in Victoria, Texas. Lamey lives with his wife in Indianapolis, and they have three daughters and eight grandchildren.
