Scattered thunderstorms rolled through Central Indiana Friday evening.

The systems began to weaken around 9 p.m. but not before a possible microburst caused slight wind damage in northern Boone County.

According to Chief Meteorologist Brian Wilkes, a microburst is an intense downdraft in a thunderstorm. It is capable of producing strong winds. It's akin to taking a garden hose and pointing it straight at the ground. Winds fan out in several directions, causing localized damage.

The thunderstorm produced hail and snapped some trees around 8 p.m. near Thorntown, Ind.

Scattered storms led to brief downpours in Marion County. Episodes of vivid lightning were also reported.

The storms severely weakened and were not expected to produce any more damage.

The chance for storms still exists Saturday and Sunday.
