A man who police said was firing a gun in a neighborhood north of the Indiana University campus while in the nude was injured in a police-action shooting Friday morning.

Officers with the Bloomington Police Department were dispatched to a home located in the 300 block of E. 15th Street at approximately 6:53 a.m. on a report of a naked man firing a gun.

When officers arrived, they found the college-aged man in an alley behind the house.  Bloomington police said officers ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, but he continued to wave the weapon around.

According to preliminary investigation, the suspected pointed the weapon in the direction of one of the officers.  One officer shot at the suspect and struck him.  Police said the man fell to the ground but later sat back up and raised the weapon in the direction of another officer.

Police said the suspect ignored the officers’ commands to put down the firearm, which prompted another officer to fire another shot at the suspect.

The man was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and was alert at the time.  Police said he underwent surgery around 11 a.m.

Police said the suspect fired multiple shots at the home and at several cars in the area.
