Indiana car dealers are having a tough time keeping new cars on their lots. Dealers said that's because now is the best time to buy.

There is a shortage of used cars, which means you can get more money for your trade-in.

Dealers also aren`t seeing customers buying smaller cars because the new models are so much more fuel efficient.

“We've been seeing an uptick in sales for the last three months, significantly,” said Fernando Falcon with Champion Chrysler Jeep Dodge.

“The car payment is the same as it was before. The insurance went up a penny and the gas is cheaper and if something breaks I don't have to pay to have it fixed,” said Janet Bell, new car owner.

When you factor in that every year fuel efficiencies improve at least a few miles per gallon and that most people have their car four to five years before they begin to shop again for a new one, the change can be pretty significant.
