A Cumberland couple accused of leaving their two young children alone inside a filthy home pleaded not guilty Tuesday to neglect charges.
Bruce Daniel Jr. and Clarissa Brewer were arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent last week.
Police arrived to the couple’s apartment after a neighbor reported she found two infants, ages 3 months and 16 months, alone in their cribs. When officers arrived, they noted the apartment smelled of urine and had mold in the fridge.
The couple eventually came home and told police they went out to get some food. Daniel Jr. and Brewer allegedly admitted they smoked marijuana on the way home.
Their trial date was scheduled for May 24.
