IU board to vote on potential increases in residence hall rates

If the board votes to raise campus housing rates, it could mean an 8 percent increase for some facilities.

Bloomington, Ind.

The Indiana University Board of Trustees will vote Friday to possibly raise residence hall rates on campus.

If the board votes to raise campus housing rates, it could mean an 8 percent increase for some facilities.

The increase would affect rates on a sliding scale, so some facilities may not see an increase. The highest increase on the scale would be 8 percent.

A 5.2 percent increase for most students was approved by a committee Thursday.

According to Fox59’s media partners The Hearld Times, increases of 5 percent will be seen at Willkie, Briscoe and Union Street Center. Rates will remain unchanged at apartment housing at Banta, Bicknell, Hillcrest, Nutt, Evermann, Redbud Hill, Third and Union, University, Campus View and Tulip Tree.

The potential increases come as new residence halls were built on the campus and several others were renovated.  Rising utility costs also play a role.
