Mother charged in crash that killed 3-year-old son

Deishay Scott charged with dealing and possession of marijuana, other charges

Fountain County, Ind.

According to court documents, an 18-year old mother was charged with multiple charges after a crash that killed her son Friday.

Ra-Shawn Kennedy, 3, was killed in an accident on I-74 in Fountain County.

State Police his mother, Deishay Scott, allegedly lost control of her vehicle and collided head-on with another vehicle while driving on snow and ice-covered lanes near Waynestown.

Scott is being charged felonies in dealing and possessing marijuana, as well as two counts of child safety restraint system violations.

Court documents state Scott's two children were not in a car seat when the accident happened.

It goes on to say when officers were cleaning up the accident site, they discovered a black purse containing a red plastic bag. Inside that plastic bag officers found a green plant material and 21 individual plastic bags. Officers believed that material to be marijuana.

Officers also found an electric scale in Scott's purse.

After the accident site was cleared, police paid a visit to Scott's hospital room where, according to documents, "Upon entering the room to speak about the accident, the smell of burnt marijuana could be detected."

Scott agreed to blood and urine screens.

Officers obtained a search warrant and discovered more baggies containing green plant material.

Documents show Scott had over 200 grams of the material in the vehicle.

Scott's other son, 2-year-old Daeshawn Kennedy, was transported to Methodist Hospital at IU Health along with two others in her vehicle.

Results of Scott's toxicology test are still pending.

Police said impaired driving may have been a factor in the crash.
