Sonja Wolf said she was with her son, Cody, Sunday, when he was caring for his baby girl. Wolf said her granddaughter had been suffering from a cough and suddenly couldn't breathe. She said she and her son called 911 and that he began performing CPR during the response.
CPS got involved later that day, after a doctor called to report that the baby was suffering from unexplained head trauma.
"Yes, there is unexplainable head trauma, but it did not happen in my son's care," Wolf said. "That baby was fine. I'm telling you it had to have happened the day before or even the doctor said it could have happened two days before, and with her being sick and coughing so hard that's what made this all come about. I mean, we kind of thank God that she was coughing so we could see what happened to her."
Montgomery is the father of the child, but Sonja Wolf said the birth mother has primary custody.
Wolf said she is happy to say her grandchild is improving at Riley Hospital, but she said she won't stop fighting until her son is cleared of the battery charge.
