Mother with terminal brain cancer waits for son to come home from Iraq

Fountain City, Ind.

"He knew, not to give up on what his focus was on because mom's got something worse than a cold," CJ Calvelage said.

Now, despite the return of her tumor three times and two subsequent surgeries, CJ continues to defy the odds.

"I'm going on my 21st month," she said.

On the 21st day of this 21st month, she learned her latest goal just got a little bit closer, thanks to an announcement she never saw coming.

"We didn't vote for the President," Calvelage said, "but today 39,000 people need to respect and give honor to our president of this United States. I do, and I cried and just called everybody and I thought this is the neatest, neatest thing. Our Jason will be coming home for Christmas."

Until then, she'll keep saying the same prayer.

"Thank you God for this," she said. "Could I at least see Jason come home? If I see Jason come home, God I thank you for this. It'd be really neat if I could watch him be a daddy now in two or three years. That would be cool, you know, if I could just ask for one more thing."
