The city signed off on a multi-story apartment building in downtown Indianapolis Thursday.

A Valparaiso developer won the contract for the project along the central canal.

It will be 10 stories high and have 319 apartments with a total cost of $60 million. That's smaller than the original proposal, which neighbors took issue with.

Construction bids could be handed out this fall with an estimated completion date of 2014.
