During the event, which is an extreme stair climb, participants will ascend from the bottom to the top of the Stratosphere. At 1,149 feet tall, it's one of the tallest freestanding structures west of the Mississippi.
Athletes in what organizers call a “vertical road race” will traverse all 108 floors as they climb 1,455 steps, starting at staggered times. Proceeds will benefit the American Lung Assn. of Nevada.
A maximum of 600 adults (18 and older) can be accommodated for the stair climb. Online registration costs $50. Climbers are also asked to make a minimum $150 fundraising pledge to the lung association.
Those who prefer to watch can do so free from the resort’s lounge. Big-screen televisions will show images from video cameras mounted throughout the stairwell.
The lounge is also where prizes -- for the fastest times and the most money raised -- will be handed out in the afternoon.
