Swift Calls Mayer Presumptuous

It’s considered public knowledge that Taylor Swift wrote her 2010 Speak Now track “Dear John” about her former flame John Mayer — so much so that Mayer himself told Rolling Stone earlier this year that he was “humiliated” by the song and that writing it was “a really lousy thing for [Swift] to do.” But don’t make the mistake of telling Swift that, as Glamour did in their cover story — or you’ll risk invoking the continued ire of Taylor’s sharp tongue (and pen). The conversation began auspiciously enough, as Glamour asked about the widespread resonance of “Dear John” — but when the interviewer asked her who the song was about, mentioning that Mayer claimed it was written about him, Swift exclaimed, “How presumptuous! I never disclose who my songs are about.”  Swift didn’t want to know that Mayer thought the song was about him, and she didn’t want to hear what he said about it either. “I don’t want to know, I don’t want to know,” she told the magazine. “I know [what he said] wasn’t good, so I don’t want to know. I put a high priority on staying happy, and I know what I can’t handle.”
